The CAIR Annual Scientific Meeting 2024 is an Accredited Group Learning Activity (Section 1) as defined by the Maintenance of Certification (MOC) program of the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada and has been approved by the Canadian Association of Radiologists (CAR) for a maximum of 14.75 credit hours.
Participants completing the activities associated with the Wellness Symposium are eligible to claim a maximum of 1 hour (3 credits, credits are calculated automatically) under Section 3 (Self-Assessment Program) of the MOC Program of the Royal College.
This group learning activity will apply for Category A Credits within the Continuing Education Credit Approval Program (CECAP) of the Canadian Association of Medical Radiation Technologists (CAMRT).
This CME event will be of great interest to Interventional Radiologists, Radiology Residents, Interventional Radiology Fellows as well as Technologists and Nurses working in Interventional Radiology and any other healthcare provider with an interest in Interventional Radiology.
This program was developed based on feedback received from the evaluation forms collected during the SIR, CIRSE and CAIR Annual Meetings.

The Canadian Association for Interventional Radiology (CAIR) will be holding an in-person Annual General Meeting (AGM) for its voting members in good standing on May 23rd, 2024 at 2:50 pm at the Westin Calgary (Belaire / Britannia room) during CAIR’s Annual Scientific Meeting.
Dr. Alda Tam MD, MBA, FRCPC, FSIR, FACR
Alda Tam is a tenured Professor in the Department of Interventional Radiology at the University of Texas M.D. Anderson Cancer Center. She received a BSc with Honors from Brown University and her MD from the University of British Columbia. She completed a diagnostic radiology residency at the University of Southern California, MBA at the University of California Irvine, and a fellowship in Vascular and Interventional Radiology at the University of Texas M.D. Anderson Cancer Center. She is an active interventional oncologist with involvement in both translational research and clinical trials. Her clinical interests include the treatment of bone and lung metastases, minimally invasive palliative therapies, and optimizing biopsy yield for clinical trials. Her translational research interests include exploring novel ablative technologies in combination with nanotechnology for the treatment of bone metastases and studying the synergies of using interventional radiology techniques in conjunction with immunotherapy. She serves as the Executive Director of Diagnostic Imaging for the MDA Anderson Cancer Network. Dr. Tam is a Fellow of the American College of Radiology, a Fellow of the Society of Interventional Radiology (SIR) and the current President of SIR.
Dr. Julien Garnon
Pr Julien GARNON is an interventional radiologist at the university hospital of Strasbourg, France. He is specialised in interventional oncology, especially in thermal ablation procedures and bone stabilization interventions. He has contributed to several publications in the field and presents on a regular basis in international conferences.
Dr. Sara Gray, BSc MD FRCPC MPH, Emergency Medicine & Critical Care Physician, ICF Certified Coach, Public Speaker
Sara Gray, MD, is an Emergency Medicine and Critical Care Physician at Cleveland Clinic Canada.
Dr. Gray obtained her Doctor of Medicine from the University of Western Ontario, before going on to complete Fellowships in both Emergency Medicine and Critical Care Medicine through the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada. A strong interest in public health and policy led her to complete a Masters of Public Health, Patient Safety and Quality of Care at the Yale University School of Public Health and Epidemiology.
Actively involved in the educational field, Dr. Gray holds numerous roles including Associate Professor in the Faculty of Medicine at the University of Toronto, Examiner for the Emergency Medicine Examination Board at the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada, and Adjunct Scientist at the Li Ka Shing Knowledge Institute at St. Michael’s Hospital. She has a strong interest in team performance, resuscitation science and wellness.
Dr. Gray is a member of the International Coaching Federation and holds certification as an Accredited Certified Coach. A dedicated researcher, her work has been published in over 25 peer-reviewed medical journals, including the Journal of Intensive Care Medicine, the Canadian Journal of Emergency Medicine, the Best Evidence in Emergency Medicine, the Canadian Journal of Gastroenterology and Hepatology and the Scandinavian Journal of Trauma, Resuscitation and Emergency Medicine.
When she’s not treating patients, Dr. Gray enjoys running, kayaking, camping, reading, dining out with friends and doing puzzles.
Dr. Jean-Pierre Pelage, MD, PhD
Dr. Pelage obtained his medical degree from Université-Paris VI, France, in 1996 and received a Diplôme d’études spécialisées (DES) radiodiagnostic et imagerie médicale (board certification in radiology) the same year. In 1998, he received an MSc in Image Processing from Université de technologie de Compiègne followed by a PhD in Biomedical Engineering in 2002 from the same institution. In 2018, he received board certification in oncology (oncologic imaging option).
In 2001, Dr. Pelage was a Visiting Senior Radiologist at Royal Surrey Hospital, Guildford, England. The following year, he was a Visiting Associate Professor of Radiology at Georgetown University Hospital, Washington, DC.
After obtaining his PhD, Dr. Pelage spent nearly a decade at Université de Versailles Saint-Quentin-en-Yvelines, where he was made Full Professor of Radiology with tenure in 2006. From 2003 to 2011 he was Vice-Chairman of Radiology at Hôpital Ambroise-Paré, Boulogne.
In 2011, he joined CHU Caen Normandie, an 1,800-bed tertiary care centre, as Chair and Chief of Radiology and Professor of Radiology with tenure at Université de Caen Normandie. In 2016, he became Vice-Chief of Medical Imaging (Radiology and Nuclear Medicine). He also served two terms (10 years) as Director of the Residency Program (DES radiodiagnostic et imagerie médicale) at that institution.
In 2014, he became a Senior Research Member (with tenure) of the CERVOxy unit at Cyceron Research Institute, a mixed research unit focusing on imaging and therapeutic strategies of brain pathologies and oncology at Université de Caen Normandie. Since 2015, he has served as Medical Director of the Institut de formation de manipulateurs d’électroradiologie médicale, also at Université de Caen Normandie.
Dr. Pelage is internationally recognized for his clinical research, including work supported by principal investigator grants from Le programme hospitalier de recherche clinique (PHRC) in France.
He is known for several innovations and firsts, including the development in 1998 of a new embolization technique for uterine fibroids using calibrated tris-acryl microspheres, and in 2012, the development of a new embolization gel. In 2003, he co-founded Archimmed, a research organization dedicated to the pre-clinical evaluation of medical devices and pharmaceutical drugs.
He is known for several innovations and firsts, including the development in 1998 of a new embolization technique for uterine fibroids using calibrated tris-acryl microspheres, and in 2012, the development of a new embolization gel. In 2003, he co-founded Archimmed, a research organization dedicated to the pre-clinical evaluation of medical devices and pharmaceutical drugs.
During his career, Dr. Pelage has served as a thesis director for 40 students. He has reviewed for more than 20 publications including The Lancet, the American Journal of Obstetrics and Gynecology, Radiology, European Radiology, Journal of Vascular and Interventional Radiology and Le Journal d’imagerie diagnostique et interventionnelle. He is co-editor of the book Uterine Artery Embolization and Gynecologic Embolotherapy and has co-authored 120 peer-reviewed articles and 23 book chapters. In addition, he has given more than 200 scientific presentations and nearly 230 invited lectures at national and international meetings. He is a member of the European Society of Radiology, the Society of Interventional Radiology, the Cardiovascular and Interventional Radiological Society of Europe and in 2021, became a Fellow of the American Society of Interventional Radiology.
Dr. Josée Dubois , M.D.
As a Professor of Radiology at the Université de Montréal, former Vice Dean of the Faculty of Medicine, and Director of the Diagnostic Radiology Program, Professor Dubois has consistently demonstrated exemplary leadership and expertise in the realms of interventional radiology, particularly in the diagnosis and treatment of vascular anomalies.
Internationally recognized for her significant achievements, Professor Dubois has amassed a remarkable body of work, comprising over 244 scientific publications and collaborations on various chapters in esteemed medical textbooks. Her scholarly contributions have not only expanded the horizons of medical knowledge but have also played a pivotal role in advancing the understanding and treatment of vascular anomalies, establishing her as a respected authority in the global medical community.
Beyond her academic prowess, Professor Dubois has exhibited an extraordinary dedication to the field of interventional pediatric radiology at Hôpital Ste-Justine. Her commitment to this specialized area underscores her passion for improving healthcare outcomes for pediatric patients, reflecting a profound sense of responsibility toward the well-being of the younger population.
A trailblazer in the domain of interventional radiology, Professor Dubois has been a pioneer for women in the field, breaking barriers and serving as an inspiring role model for aspiring female radiologists. Her mentoring efforts, spanning over 25 years, have cultivated the talents of numerous students, instilling in them not only technical proficiency but also the values of dedication and perseverance.
In addition to her professional accomplishments, Professor Dubois leads a fulfilling personal life as a devoted mother of two children and a supportive spouse. Her ability to balance the demands of a successful career with her responsibilities as a parent and partner is truly commendable, reflecting her exceptional organizational skills and capacity to excel in multiple domains.
Professor Dubois is characterized by her determination, hard work, and unwavering dedication to her students, colleagues, and patients. Her availability and willingness to contribute to the advancement of medical knowledge are traits that have consistently set her apart as a leader in the field.
