Haskal MD\, FSIR\, FAHA\, FACR \nProfessor of Radiology\nVice Chair\, Professional Development\nEmeritus Editor in Chief\, Journal of Vascular and Interventional Radiology (2011-2020)\nEditor in Chief\, International journal of Gastrointestinal interventions\nUniversity of Virginia School of Medicine\nDept. of Radiology and Medical Imaging / Interventional Radiology\nCharlottesville\, VA \nProf. Dr. Ziv J Haskal is a tenured professor at the University of Virginia School of Medicine. After training in Diagnostic and Interventional Radiology at the University of California\, San Francisco\, he joined the faculty of the University of Pennsylvania in 1992\, and then moved to build interventional services at both the New York-Presbyterian Hospital/Columbia University\, and the University of Maryland\, as professor and chief. \nHis research has spanned the breadth of IR\, beginning with defining early research in TIPS and complex portal hypertension: his preclinical experimental and human studies led to creation of the TIPS endograft used by majority of the planet. It included preclinical validation and in-human interventional trans-arterial gene vector delivery (one of the first human gene therapy trials); first demonstration of IR radiation eye injury risks at occupational levels; trials in accelerated pharmacomechanical deep vein interventions; advances in hemodialysis access care\, including randomized trials of dialysis stent grafts that defined the first proven superior intervention for AV graft stenosis\, benefiting thousands worldwide; liver transplant interventions; all aspects of embolization; and interventional oncology. He has published over 400 manuscripts\, abstracts\, chapters\, books\, letters\, and editorials in journals such as the New England Journal of Medicine\,  Human Gene Therapy\, Circulation\, Hepatology\, Radiology\, CVIR\, AJR\, and JVIR. His papers have been cited thousands of times—the AHA/ACC PAD Guideline he co-chaired and co-wrote\, alone\, has been cited over 3000 times). His H-index is 50.  Prof. Haskal has led or participated in over 50 human and animal research studies. \nDr Haskal has given more than 550 invited lectures worldwide and been awarded numerous honorary fellowships\, national and international awards for innovation\, leadership\, service\, and research excellence. He was awarded the 2014 “Leaders in Innovation” by the Society of Interventional Radiology Research Foundation\, APSCVIR Fellowship and others.  In 2007\, Dr Haskal chaired the SIR Annual Scientific Meeting. He co-founded the GEST meeting (and coined its name). Dr. Haskal named and invented the now oft-imitated MasterClass ‘event’ and scientific Congresses (based upon his early experiences as a piano student)\, and has pioneered novel education for decades\, from the early 90’s publishing over 400 cases in the first online monthly case discussion forum (‘The SIR Case Club’)\, running complex on-site live mechanical and microscope demonstrations at medical conferences\, to creating virtual reality-based content. \nProf. Haskal served as the Deputy Editor in Chief of CVIR for 5 years during which time Dr Vorwerk and he doubled its Impact Factor. Thereafter he served two consecutive terms as the JVIR Editor in Chief (10 years) during which he nearly tripled its submissions\, raised its Impact Factor to 3.037 and launched all its multimedia\, social media feeds\, blog\, editorial fellowship\, podcasts\, IR virtual reality\, and other new topics and features. In those editor roles\, he line-edited over 18\,000 manuscripts.  In parallel\, he strove to elevate the consistent presentation of scientific information with the content rigor and form of the world’s leading academic journals\, highlighting the on-par relevance of IR research with all other branches of medicine. In nearly 30 years\, Prof. Haskal has mentored hundreds of trainees; he has been equally focused upon educating newer authors\, holding small group ‘Editor’s Writing Club’ seminars for over 10 years\, reaching over 1000 attendees worldwide. \nProf. Haskal has served in many societal leadership and committee positions\, such as President of both the Society of Gastrointestinal Interventions and International Society of Neurovascular Disease\, the SIR Executive Committee (one of its longest serving members)\, the SIR Research Foundation Board\, and chaired numerous committees and memberships within the American Heart Association\, American College of Cardiology\, and American College of Radiology. \n\nFaculty\n*Dr. Andrew Benko\, MD\, FRCPC\, C.S.P.Q\nChief of Angiography and Interventional Radiology\, CHUS; Associated professor\, University of Sherbrooke \nDr. Véronique Caty\, MD\, FRCPC\nVascular and Interventional Radiologist\, CIUSSS Montreal East \nDr. Tara Graham\, MD\, FRCPC\nVascular and Interventional Radiologist\, Trillium Health Partners\, Mississauga; Lecturer\, Faculty of Medicine\, University of Toronto \n*Dr. Adnan Hadziomerovic MD\, FRCPC\nHead Vascular and Interventional Radiology Dept. of Medical Imaging\, The Ottawa Hospital Assistant Professor\, University of Ottawa\n \nDr. David Liu\, MD\, FRCPC\, FSIR\nAssociate Professor\, Department of Radiology\, Faculty of Medicine\, University of British Columbia Associate Professor\, School of Biomedical Engineering\, Faculty of Applied Sciences\, University of British Columbia Voluntary Professor\, Department of Interventional Radiology\, Miller School of Medicine\, University of Miami \nDr. Lindsay Machan\, MD\, FSIR\nInterventional Radiologist\, Vancouver Hospital\, Associate Professor of Radiology\, University of British Columbia\, Vancouver \nDr. Maxime Noël-Lamy\, MD\nAssistant professor Interventional Radiology Université de Sherbrooke\, QC\n \n*Dr. Stefan Przybojewski\, MBChB\nInterventional Radiologist\, Foothill’s Medical Center\, Clinical Assistant Professor\, University of Calgary\n \nDr. Stephen Ryan MD\, PhD\, FRCPC\nFellowship Director\, Vascular and Interventional Radiology and Assistant Professor\, University of Ottawa\n \nDr. David Valenti\, MDCM\, FRCPC\, FSIR\, FCIRSE\nDivision Head\, Interventional Radiology\, McGill University Health Centre; Director IR Fellowship Program\, McGill University\, Montreal \n*Dr. Jason Wong\, MD\, FRCPC\, FSIR\, FCIRSE\nClinical Associate Professor\, Cardiovascular and Interventional Radiology\, Foothills Medical Centre; Cumming\, School of Medicine\, University of Calgary \n*Planning committee member \n\nLOCATION\nFairmont Chateau Whistler\n4599 Chateau Blvd\, Whistler\, BC V8E 0Z5 \n\nRegistration\nMembers \nPhysician – $838\nFellow/Resident – $201 –  coupon code: GSC76\nNurse/Technologist – $352 –  coupon code: GSC58\nStudent – $0 – coupon code: GSC100 \nNon-Members \nPhysician – $1420\nFellow/Resident – $667 – coupon code: GSC53\nNurse/Technologist – $653 – coupon code: GSC54\nStudent – $0 – coupon code: GSC100 \nCancellation fee policy\n30 days before the event : 50$ (+tx)\n7  days before the event : 50% of registration fees (+tx)\nLess than 7 days before the event: No Refund. \n\nCAIR MEMBER PRICING \nTo take advantage of the member discount\, you must log into your member account first\, select the “Register for Events” link in the member dashboard to navigate back to this event\, add the item to cart\, view your cart\, use the appropriate coupon code if you are a Fellow/Resident/Nurse/Technologist or Student\, then proceed to checkout. SUMMARY:Virtual Grand Slams and Catastrophes 2022
DESCRIPTION:CAIR is pleased to present the 6th Annual Grand Slams and Catastrophes course – a shortened 4-hour virtual event with Dr. Ziv Haskal as a guest speaker. Case-based presentations of both unique “think outside the box”/extreme IR (Grand Slams) and M&M (Catastrophes) will follow\, with a view to generate lively discussion from the faculty and attendees. \n\nAccreditation/CME Credits\nThe Grand Slams & Catastrophes 2022 is an Accredited Group Learning Activity (Section 1) as defined by the Maintenance of Certification (MOC) program of the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada and has been approved by the Canadian Association of Radiologists (CAR) for a maximum of 4.25 hours (credits are automatically calculated). \n\nMeeting Learning Objectives\nAt the end of the meeting\, the participant should expect to: \n\nIdentify potential outcomes from case complications and develop strategies for avoidance\nRecognize medicolegal implications of complications and the process of litigation\nDescribe the components of a successful quality assurance program in IR\nExplain the common causes of medical errors\nExchange opinions and experience in challenging cases through workshops\, debates and panel cases\nDiscuss the future direction of IR\nIdentify and discuss various approaches\, as well as useful tips and tricks\, in order to get out of challenging clinical situations or to achieve procedural success in both vascular and non-vascular\n\n\n  \nGuest Speaker\n \nDr. Ziv J. \n\nFaculty\nSPEAKERS \nDr. Tara Graham\, MD\, FRCPC\nVascular and Interventional Radiologist\, Trillium Health Partners\, Mississauga; Lecturer\, Faculty of Medicine\, University of Toronto \nDr. Adnan Hadziomerovic MD\, FRCPC\nHead Vascular and Interventional Radiology Dept. of Medical Imaging\, The Ottawa Hospital Assistant Professor\, University of Ottawa\n \nDr. John Kachura\, MD\, FRCPC\, FSIR\nVascular and Interventional Radiologist\, University Health Network and Mount Sinai Hospital\, Associate Professor\, Department of Medical Imaging\, University of Toronto\, VIR Fellowship Supervisor\, UHN/MSH and University of Toronto\n \nDr. Lindsay Machan\, MD\, FSIR\nInterventional Radiologist\, Vancouver Hospital\, Associate Professor of Radiology\, University of British Columbia\, Vancouver \nDr. Maxime Noël-Lamy\, MD\nAssistant professor Interventional Radiology Université de Sherbrooke\, QC\n \nDr. Stefan Przybojewski\, MBChB\nInterventional Radiologist\, Foothill’s Medical Center\, Clinical Assistant Professor\, University of Calgary\n \nDr. Stephen Ryan\, MD\, PhD\, FRCPC\nFellowship Director\, Vascular and Interventional Radiology and Assistant Professor\, University of Ottawa \nDr. Karim Virani\, MD\nIR Fellow\, Emory University School of Medicine\, Atlanta\, GA \n\nFaculty\nPLANNING COMMITTEE \nDr. Andrew Benko\, MD\, FRCPC\, C.S.P.Q\nChief of Angiography and Interventional Radiology\, CHUS; Associated professor\, University of Sherbrooke \nDr. Adnan Hadziomerovic MD\, FRCPC\nHead Vascular and Interventional Radiology Dept. of Medical Imaging\, The Ottawa Hospital Assistant Professor\, University of Ottawa\n \nDr. Stefan Przybojewski\, MBChB\nInterventional Radiologist\, Foothill’s Medical Center\, Clinical Assistant Professor\, University of Calgary\n \nDr. Jason Wong\, MD\, FRCPC\, FSIR\, FCIRSE\nClinical Associate Professor\, Cardiovascular and Interventional Radiology\, Foothills Medical Centre; Cumming\, School of Medicine\, University of Calgary \n\nRegistration\n\nCAIR MEMBERS: \nEvent: NO COST\nThis event is offered at NO COST for CAIR members.
